Records Unit

The Records Unit of the Florida A&M University Department of Campus Safety & Security (FAMU DCSS) is responsible for compiling, maintaining, and disseminating police department records regarding incident and traffic crash reports. The Records Unit is also responsible for providing crime statistics to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for the Uniformed Crime Report (UCR), which assesses the level and types of crime that occur on our campus.

As a quasi-state agency, FAMU DCSS is required to provide public records in accordance with Chapter 119 Florida Statutes (Fla.Stat. §119). To effectively meet that requirement, anyone can receive a copy of a police report simply by emailing the Public Records Request form or coming into the police station and requesting it. Call the Records department at (850) 599-8522 to ensure that the police report is available. Please have your case number, first and last name when requesting a report. If you do not have a case number, you must know the date, time, and location where the incident occurred.

Per Fla.Stat. §119, those requesting public information are expressly permitted by law to make requests in any manner they choose (verbal, written, anonymous, etc.). Citizens and media representatives can also make public police records requests for incident or traffic crash reports by coming to our department during regular business hours Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.
