The Office of Communications

The Florida A&M University Office of Communications, is a unit of the Office of the President that provides leadership and support to the University in the areas of strategic communications, media relations, publications, marketing, special events, graphic design, and photography. The office is the official  and first source of news and information about the University. Its mission is to represent and promote the university and its faculty, students, and programs to a variety of constituents, including employees, alumni, the media, government officials, businesses, students and their parents.

The Office of Communications:
  • Directs University marketing and branding efforts;
  • Oversees the distribution of information to the media;
  • Manages the content and design of the front page of FAMU’s Website;
  • Manages the FAMU blogspot, FAMU Facebook and FAMU YouTube;
  • Publishes the A&M Magazine, Inside FAMU, FAMU e-newsletter and the BOT Report;
  • Reviews and approves advertising, video and publications distributed to an external audience;
  • Provides photography and graphic design services; and
  • Designs and develops the University General Catalog and recruitment materials.

Media Relations
The Office of Media Relations is a major force in positively enhancing the public image of FAMU, both in the Tallahassee and beyond, largely through interaction with the news media.  The Office of Media Relations is also the place for faculty, staff and students to submit news about their accomplishments and achievements.

Publications
The Office of Publications creates attractive, high quality communications — both print and electronic — that reflect the University’s special character and commitment to excellence.  The office oversees the development of the University’s General Catalog in conjunction with the Office of Academic Affairs.  The office also is responsible for enforcing the University’s Communications Policy.

Marketing
The Marketing Office oversees creative concepts and designs for ads, Internet, brochures, billboards, trade shows, videos, newsletters and all other collateral material that promotes the overall image of the University and its various schools and colleges.

Special Events
The Special Events Office is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of events sponsored by the Office of the President, University Relations and Communications. In addition, the Office serves as a resource to the entire University, providing expertise and guidance in the planning and implementation of events hosted by individual schools, colleges and departments.

Photography/Graphic Design
The role and function of the Photographic Services Office is to photograph Florida A&M University's teaching, research, and service to accompany news stories, our services include coverage of university activities and events for campus offices and publications. Our services also include a digital stock photo library encompassing all aspects of campus life.

Graphic Design is the manipulation of text, symbols and images into compositions for visual communication purposes.  Graphic design is commonly used to develop advertisements, packaging, websites, brand identity and publications through the use of computer software and hardware.  At FAMU, the graphic design process is essential to the Office of Communications strategy for brand identity and the page layout of major magazines, recruitment materials, advertisements, etc. intended for public viewing.  Through the graphic design process, it is the mission for the Office of Communications to provide quality publications and overall visual quality control of the FAMU brand.
