Office of Financial Aid

Florida A & M University's Federal School Code: 001480

The Office of Financial Aid would like to encourage all students to apply for financial assistance.  If you have not done so, go online now to complete your 2020-2021 FAFSA. The priority filing date for Florida A&M is January 1st.   New applicants should complete an Initial Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), while returning students (who completed a FAFSA in 2019-2020) can submit a renewal FAFSA. In order to complete your application and sign it electronically, you will need an FSA ID. Your FSA ID can be used each year to electronically apply for federal student aid and to access your Federal Student Aid records online. If you need to apply for an FSA ID, please click HERE or visit the Federal Student Aid website at studentaid.ed.gov.

If you want to begin exploring your financial aid options and get an early start on the financial aid process, FAFSA4caster is for you! By using FAFSA4caster, you and your family will receive an early estimate of eligibility for federal student aid. Please click here to navigate to FAFSA4caster.

Once your FAFSA is processed by the Central Processing System, you will have access to a Student Aid Report (SAR), either through an online summary of the online application process, or through a printed document mailed to you.  It's important that you check your SAR for accuracy and respond to any comment or notices posted by the federal processor on the SAR.  Once FAMU has your valid FAFSA data and you have been officially admitted to the university, we will notify you of your eligibility for aid.  Please respond to all correspondence and/or telephone call (s) from our office concerning your financial aid eligibility status.  Due to a high volume of calls, we encourage you to review your iRattler account periodically.

FAMU will notify you if any additional documents are required for completion of your financial aid application via your iRattler account.  Remember to make copies of any documents prior to submission.  All documents must be signed, mailed, faxed, emailed to the Office of Financial Aid email address; financialaiddocs@famu.edu  and/or dropped off to the Office of Financial Aid.

IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL AND TAX TRANSCRIPT INSTRUCTIONS

The FAFSA on the Web includes an option for applicants to pull IRS data directly into their FAFSA.  Applicants who are eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval process are linked to an IRS Web site from FAFSA on the Web.  This enhancement saves you the time previously required to find the required information on your tax returns and ensures accuracy of reporting.

If you are unable or choose not to utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, complete the FAFSA to the best of your ability using your 2018 tax return(s) or other financial documents.  If you initially filed the FAFSA before your tax returns were completed or before the data was available through the FAFSA, you can login and retrieve the actual IRS data and submit a correction to the FAFSA which will in turn be sent to the Office of Financial Aid.

If a student is selected for a process called “Verification” and the student and/or parent was unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, an IRS Tax Transcript must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid.
